The forms of ionizing radiation, the basic types of irradiation installations, and processes occurring under the influence of ionizing radiation in amino acids, protein, enzymes, hides, and different forms of leather are described. The effect of radiation on basic proteins of hides and furs-- collagen and kenatin--is examined in detail. Processes of sterilization and disinfecting of hides by ionizing radiation are discussed. The optimum radiation doses are recommended. The protection of biological objects from radiation is considered. (tr-auth)
