Nuclear emulsions were employed to study the angular distrinutions of three proton groups from the K/sup 39/(d,p)K/sup 40/ reaction for 4.0 Mev deuterons and also of the long range proton group from the Ca/sup 40/(d,p)Ca/sup 41/ reaction for 1.3, 2.2, and 4.0 Mev deuterons. The measured angular distributions do not agree with three computed from Butler's theory. Comparison of the results obtained for the two investigated reactions permits one to draw some conclusions regarding the lower states of the K/sup 40/ nucleus. (tr-auth)
