Title: $gamma$-RAYS FROM SHORT-LIVED FISSION PRODUCTS OF $sup 235$U AND $sup 239$Pu

Journal Article · · J. Nuclear Energy

Results are given of some measurements of the spectral composition of the gamma rays emitted by U/sup 235/ fission products in the time interval of 1.5 to 5 sec after fission. The absorption coefficient, using Cu absorbers, was 0.048 plus or minus 0.005 cm/sup 2//g amd was 0.046 plus or minus 0.009 cm/sup 2//g for Al absorbers. In the interval of 1.25 to 17 sec after fission the decay of U/sup 235/ fission fragments followed the law t/sup-0.8/ plus or minus 6%. The decay of Pu/sup 239/ fission fragments followed the same law, t/sup -0.8/ plus or minus 8%. (J.S.R.)
