SOME RECENT RESULTS ON FAST NEUTRON CROSS SECTIONS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4307419

A summary of recent neutron cross section work by several groups at Los Alamos in the energy range 0.1 to 16 Mev is presented. Calculated aed experimental data are presented for the dlfferential elastic scattering cross sections of C, Al, Fe, Ca, Sn, Pb, and U for 14.5Mev neutrons. Angular distributions of the inelastic neutrons emitted in the interaction of 14-Mev neutrons with severai complex nuclei were measured for neutrons in three energy regions: 0.5 to 4 Mev, 4 to 13 Mev, and 9 to 13 Mev. Total cross sections of C, Ca, Ti, Ba, La, Ce, Nd, Sn, Gd, Er, Ta, Au, and Pb for neutrons of energy between 13.1 and 15.6 Mev were measured by the transmission technique with good geometry. By using a pulsed-beam time-of-flight technique, differential elastic and total neutron cross sections for Be were measured at 2.6, 3.5, 4.1, 5.0, and 6.0 Mev to an accuracy of approximately 5%. The angular distribution of tritons from the Li/ sup 6/(n,t)He/sup 4/ reaction was measured at neutron energies of 150, 200, 258, 300, 350, and 565 kev. Neutron emission from the reaction B/sup 11/( alpha ,n)N/ sup 14/ was measured in detail in the alpha particle energy range from 2 to 7 Mev. (M.H.R.)
