HELICITY OF NEUTRINOS

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
A combined analysis of circular polarization and resonant scattering of gamma rays following orbital electron capture measures the helicity of the neutrino. A measurement was carried out with Eu/sup 152/ which decays by orbital electron capture. Assuming the most plausible spin-parity for this isomer compatible with its decay scheme, 0-1, it was found that the neutrino was ''left handed,'' and had negative helicity. (A. C.)
