RADIOACTIVE DISEQUILIBRIUM STUDIES AS AN AID IN UNDERSTANDING THE NATURAL MIGRATION OF URANIUM AND ITS DECAY PRODUCTS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4306967

Several key daughter products and uranium must be determined in order to study disequilibrium in detail. Published radiochemical methods are used for the analysis of the isotopic abundances of Pa/sup 231/, Th/sup 230/, Ra/sup 226/, ned by the standard methods of analysis. In rocks which contain primarily 32/ series; Th/sup 232/, Th/sup 228/, Ra/sup 224/, and Bi/sup 212/are determined. Alpha s cinillation measurements are used to resolve the disequilibrium involving the uranium series were found: ium, and (4) the exclusive radium isotope occurrence. Several relationships can be estimated for the deposition of can be approximately dated must have ratios of Pa/sup 231//U, Th/sup 230//U, and Ra/sup 226//U such that the growth of each of volved with these dated relationships is uranium leaching from oxidized host rock and deposition in a reroutine radiometric assays and chemical asssays for uranium is discussed, and the possibility pointed out that misleading conclusions may be obtained unless radiochemical analyses.
