IONIZATION CHAMBERS FOR ALPHA PARTICLE COUNTING

Journal Article · · Pribory i Tekh. Ekspt.
OSTI ID:4305571
The construction and properties of 5 ionization chambers for alpha particle counting are described. The first is a universal camera for alpha particles emmited within a solid angle of 2 pi . This camera is used for measurements on alpha-active materials deposited on one or both aides of a thin plate. It can also be used to estimate the degree of alpha-activation of the inner surfaces of hemisphericai platinum cups after various chemical procedures. The second is a camera for measurements in a solid angle which is less than, or equal to, 2 pi . No. 3 is a camera for measuring alpha activities of liquids. The fourth is a camera with a solid angle (0.01- 0.001) x 2 pi . The last is an argon filled camera. This is used to measure intensities of the order of 2 x 10/ sup 5/ counts/min and also in the measurement of alpha activity on a high beta background. The pressure of the argon is about 1 atm. The mechanical design of the 5 chambers is shown. (TCO)
