On the basis of the criteria of sensitivity, performance, and cost, the efficiency of the use of radiometric systems of betatrons for crack detection using scintillation counters as radiation detectors was examined. The analysis was made on three materials used industrially (steel, aluminum, and lead) for betatrons with maximum radiation energy of 15, 25, and 30 MeV. The calculations were made for sensitivities of 1.0 and 2.0. The performance was calculated as a function of the thickness of the material. A comparative analysis was made of the performance and cost of the radiometric and radiographic control methods. The comparison showed the advisability of the transition in crack detection to radiometric methods and the efficiency of the use of 25 and 30 MeV betatrons. (tr-auth)
