Engineering-scale energy storage reservoir of iron titanium hydride
From hydrogen economy Miami energy conference; Miami Beach, Florida, USA (18 Mar 1974). A hydrogen reservoir containing 14 lb of H/sub 2/ in the form of 893 lb of granular iron titanium hydride was constructed and tested. The reservoir will be used by Public Service Electric and Gas Co. of New Jersey to study the feasibility of storing off-peak electrical energy through the use of a water electrolyzer, a hydride reservoir, and a fuel cell stack. The internal functional components of the stainless steel vessel consist of a barrier in the form of porous metal tubes, and heat exchanger tubes. Details of construction, preparation of the hydride, and performance tests made at BNL are described. (auth)
