Fundamental characteristics of fuel-rich combustion of hydrogen-air

Conference ·
OSTI ID:430503

We have proposed a gas turbine system using fuel-rich hydrogen combustion, which is called {open_quotes}Chemical gas turbine system{close_quotes}. It is one of the most important studies to develop a fuel-rich hydrogen-air combustor as a major component of the proposed system. We have focused on the fuel-rich coaxial diffusion flame under normal pressure and investigated the effects of equivalence ratio and swirl number on the combustion characteristics by measuring temperature distributions, combustion gas components, and flame structures by means of direct observation of OH radical emissions in a model combustor. It was found from the experimental results that the flames shortened remarkably and the NO{sub x} emission decreased by swirling under fuel-rich conditions. 3 refs., 9 figs., 1 tab.
