The influence of wall friction on the characteristics of pressed ceramic parts
- Imperial College, London (United Kingdom)
This paper focuses upon developing a compaction model which predicts the density distribution of pressed ceramic powder parts. In order to achieve this, the influence of the variation in the wall friction coefficient with the state of the wall lubrication and the applied load is investigated experimentally. Direct wall friction data are deduced experimentally measuring the stress transmission generated in the die compaction of an agglomerated alumina powder using a cylindrical compaction configuration. These data, combined with an established wall friction model, are used as input for a finite element model of powder compaction. The predictions of the model are compared with experimental data. 9 refs., 8 figs., 1 tab.
