Blast furnace operation at very high coal injection rate at ILVA Taranto

Book ·
OSTI ID:43042
In Taranto Works of ILVA, a fully integrated coal injection system feeding 4 blast furnaces has been operating since September 1991. Operational results in furnace 2 and 4 are specially of interest due to very high injection and low coke rates achieved within a short time. New insights into changes in furnace parameters such as fuel rate, productivity, coke replacement, ratio, burden descent (time and velocity), optimum use of blast enrichment under condition of high coal injection rate became possible and is reported in detail. Also, KST static coal distributor proved to be highly efficient at high injection rate when even distribution led to reduced blast oxygen enrichment requirement at high injection rate. In fact, oxygen used per injection rate increase was lowest compared with other users of PCI.
