Milne's equation is derived as an example of an equation of the Wiener- Hopf type. The basic mathematical theory of the Wiener-Hopf method is developed, and a number of physical problems solvable by the WienerHopf methcd are presented. A discussion of the application of the Wiener-Hopf method to the non-homogeneous integral equation is included. (auth)
