Limitations for the critical current density in monofilamentary (Bi,Pb){sub 2}Sr{sub 2}Ca{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub x} silver sheathed tapes

Book ·
OSTI ID:43025
It is shown that the main features of the temperature and field dependences of the critical current density j{sub c} of silver sheathed (Bi,Pb){sub 2}Sr{sub 2}Ca{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub x} (2223) monofilamentary tapes (prepared by the Powder In Tube method with intermediate pressing or rolling) can be interpreted in terms of a model that assumes the presence of 2212 in the path for the supercurrent, most probably in the form of layers of one or a few unit cells thickness that are intergrown at the frequent twist boundaries in the 2223 grains. Other main limiting factors are the pinning properties of the material and the texture of the filament.
