The corrosion resistance of a number of aluminumnickel-lron alloys has been studied in static water at 260 to 350 deg C. Small additions of Ti, Zr, and Be were found to improve the corrosion resistanee. The effect of increased nickel (demonstrated previously) and these minor additions was found to be addltive. and the alloy of best corroslon resistance (AECL-l0197) had the wt.% composition: Ni, 2.0; Fe, 0.5; Si, 0.2; Ti, 0.2; Zr, 0.05; and Be, 0.05. At 300 deg C, the static corrosion rate of l0197 was 0.5 x l0/sup -3/ inches/year. The significance of the results is discussed in terms of reactor teehnology and the mechanism of corrosion. (auth)
