Ultrasonically agitated HF - HNO/sub 3/ solutions were used to loosen the conthmination particles from the alloy surface. A fiowing water rinse cycle with continuous ultrasonic agitation flushed out the loosened radioactive particles leaving a nonmeasurable surface after drying. Al alloys with up to 15 wt.% Pu were decontaminated. (J. R. D.)
