Fast- and epithermal-neutron flux measurement

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instrum. Methods, v. 116, no. 1, pp. 123-124

The feasibility of applying fission-produced /sup 140/Ba to determine fast- and epithermal neutron fiuxes was investigated experimentally. /sup 140/Ba decays by beta-ray emission with a half-life of 12.5 d to /sup 140/La. The absolute activity of /sup 140/La calculated from the measured activity of the 1598.2 keV peak with a calibrated Ge(Li) detector was obtained from two uranium samples differing in their /sup 235/U percentsge irradiated under cadmium cover. The solution of two simultaneous equations was used to determine the epithermal- and fast-neutron fluxes. (auth)
