SOME METHODS OF MASS PREPARING Po-$alpha$-Be NEUTRON SOURCES (in Russian)
A wet method of preparing Po- alpha -Be sources based on a polonium and beryilium mixture prepared by conducting the polonium nitrate solution through a beryllium powder and drying and pulverizing the resulting mixture is described. The inethod of preparing copper-free polonium nitrate is also described. The wet method is not suitable for mass production of sources due to strong neutron activity in the basic technological process. A dry method is proposed for mass production in which copper powder, with a known quantity of Po/sup 210/ is weighed out into containers which are then filled with beryllium powder. The hermetically tight containers are then heated, sublimating Po/sup 210/ and distributing it evenly in the mixture. (tr-auth) HE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF THORIUM(IV)
