SPERT III HAZARDS SUMMARY REPORT

Spert III will be a heteorogeneous, llght-water-cooled and -moderated reactor, deslgned for operation at pressures up to 2500 psi and temperatures up to 670 deg F. The facility will be used for time performance of basic reactor kinetic studies designed to provide information for the advancement of pressurized-water, power-reactor safetyand technology. Thls report discusses the major hazards present in the operation of this facility, the precautions to be taken to reduce the probability of an accident, and the conscquences of the maxidum possible accident. Brief descriptions of the Spert lII deslgn and the slte location are also presented. lt is concluded that the proposed method of operation and the site location make possible the operation of the Spert lII facility wlthout hazard to the general public.
