THE ABSORPTIOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF IRON IN URANIUM PLANT SOLUTIONS AND PLANT INTERMEDIATES (aa DIPYRIDYL METHOD)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4295324
Plant solutions are normally in nitric acid; dissolution procedures for the various solid uranium intermediates are included. The iron is reduced to the ferrous state with hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Sodium acetate is added to buffer the solution to a pH of between 3 and 6. An acid solution of aa dipyridyl is added, fornfing the colored ferrous complex. Separation from uranium is effected by extraction of the complex into chloroform using a sodium alkyl sulfonate reagent as an extraction promoter. lron is determined by measurement of the absorbancy of the chloroform extract on a Spekker absorptiometer with Ilford 604 filters.
