A brief summary is given of the interest which the mass spectrometer has for chemical and isotopic aralyses, and the operational principles are reviewed. Tbe HD--H/sub 2/ mass Spectrometer is described. This instrument permits the precise determination of hydrogon--deuterium mixtures. A collector with a double targct allows the simultaneous measurement of the H/sub 2/ and the HD ion currents and the measurement of their ratio by a potentiometric method. (tr- auth)
