EXPERIMENTS ON NUCLIDES DECAYING BY POSITRON EMISSION AND ELECTRON CAPTURE

The experimental equipment used in this investigation of radioactive decay is described. Important aspects of beta decay theory whlch are investigated in the experimental parts of this thesis are discussed. Experiments on the decay of Mn/sup 52/ are described. Investigations into the decays of Ni/ sup 57/ and Y/sup 86/ are discussed in detail. A description of an investigation on electron capture to positron emission branching ratios is given. Measurements carried out for allowed transitions on the decays of Na/sup 22/, Sc/sup 44/, V/ sup 48/, Mn/.sup 52/, Co/sup 58/, and Ni/sup /57 a nd for first forbidden transitions on Rb/sup 84/ are discussed.
