RARE EARTH FISSION PRODUCT YIELDS FROM HIGHLY IRRADIATED PLUTONIUM 239

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4286290

The rare earth fission products were isolated from the products of the irraulation of Pu with a total dose of 2.3 x 10 neutrons/cm/sup 2/. The rare earths, after separations from the transuranic elements, were themselves separated by means of a micro cation-exchange column, and the isotopic composition and absolute quantity of each element determined by mass spectrometry and micro-chelatometry, or by neutron activation analysis. The isotopes estimated were La/sup 139/, Ce/sup 140/, Ce/sup 142/, Ce/sup 144, Pr/sup 141/ Nd/ sup 142/, Nd/sup 143/, Nd/sup 144/, Nd/sup 145/, Nd/sup 146/, Nd/ sup 148/, Nd/ sup 150/, Sm/sup 147/, Sm/sup 148/, Sm/sup 150/, Sm/sup 151/, Sm/sup 152/, Sm/sup 184/, Eu/sup 152/, Eu /sup 153/, Eu/sup 154/, Tb/sup 159/, Dy/sup 160/, Dy/sup 162/, Dy/sup 163/, Dy/sup 164/were also found to be present but were not estimated.
