THE ANNIHILATION OF FREE POSITRONS ON A HELIUM ATOM AND A HYDROGEN MOLECULE

The annihilation of free positrons by a helium atom and a hydrogen molecule was investigated. A zero momentum was assumed for the incident positron. The life of free positrons and the angular correlation of the emitted photons were calculated for the case of a helium atom using the plane wave positron function in the averaged field of the unpolarized ntom and in the averaged field of the polarized atom. The calculation for the case of the hydrogen molecule was complicated by the lack of spherical symmetry, but it was performed by using the pkane wave positron function. (J. S.R.)
