University of Saskatchewan Compact Torus Injector (USCTI) has been designed, fabricated and installed for injection experiments on the STOR-M tokamak. In USCTI, compact toroids (CTs) with densities in the range of 10{sup 15} cm{sup {minus}3} are formed and accelerated to velocities exceeding 120 km/sec. The total mass of CT can be controlled by fast formation and acceleration discharges and by careful adjustment of the through-put of fast-acting gas valves. For injection into STOR-M, CT mass of approximately 1 {micro}g is normally employed. The injector is installed on STOR-M with tangential injection configuration. Following the CT injection, the plasma density starts to increase immediately from 1 {times} 10{sup 13} cm{sup {minus}3} to a peak value of 2 {times} 10{sup 13} cm{sup {minus}3} within 3 msec. The plasma moves outward as the result of the increase in the poloidal {beta} value. The H{sub {alpha}} radiation level decreases, as observed previously during the biasing and short current pulse induced ohmic H-mode in STOR-M. Also, the loop voltage decreases, which is probably the signature of current drive and/or plasma heating due to momentum and/or energy transfer from energetic CT plasmoid to tokamak discharge.
