THE ELECTROLYSIS OF USED URANIUM SALTS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4279280
The electrolytic reduction of UF/sub 4/ was investigated in fused melts of Nacl and CaCl/sub 2/ or KF. Electrolysis produced metallic uranium at the cathode in the form of powders set in a mass of fused salts. It was found impossible to separate these powders from the melt without oxidation taking place to UO/sub 2/, and it was concluded that the process was unlikely to furnish an efficient method of production of uranium.
