An experimental study of the pollutant emission characteristics of a propane diffusion flame in which air infusion is staged by a cascade of venturis is presented. The effects of size and spacing of venturis on the emission indices of NO, NO{sub x}, and CO have been studied. A burner rim attached flame, a fully lifted flame, and a flame in transition from attached to lift conditions have been examined. The effects of spacing and size of the venturi on the emission indices are nonmonotonic and optimal conditions are coupled with each other.
