The non-mesonic decay of beryllium hyperfragment, found in Ilford G-5 emulsion exposed at ~25 km elevation, permitted a relatively accurate measurement of the DELTA /sup 0/-particle bond. The primary star 12 + 4p emits a slow hyperfragment which stops in the same layer, forming a secondary triple-prong star. The hyperfragment path is 60 mu . The charge, obtained by comparison of the hyperfragment track thickness with the thicknesses of Be/sup 8/ and alpha particle tracks was equal to Z approximately 4. The total energy of particles 1, 2, and 3 was 345.7 plus or minus 2 Mev. By assuming that an equal and counterdirectional energy was carried away by a neutron, the decay scheme was found to be: DELTA /sup 0/ Be/sup 8/ yields He/sup 4/ + d + p + n + Q, Q = (160.0 plus or minus 1.3) Mev. The DELTA /sup 0/ bond energy is B DELTA /sup 0/ = (8.2 plus or minus 1.6) Mev. (R.V.J.)
