THE SEPARATION TUBE. XXII. EFFECT OF THE MASS DISTRIBUTION IN THE THERMAL DIFFUSION BETWEEN Ar$sup 40$ AND HCl$sup 35$, HCl$sup 37$, DCl$sup 35$, AND DCl$sup 3$$sup 7$ (in German)

The thermal diffusion alpha of Ar/sup 40/ in HCl/sup 35/, HCl/sup 37, DCl/sup 35/, and DCl/sup 37/ was measured at a temperature of 107 deg C. The ce HCl/sup 35/, HCl/sup 37/, and DCl/ sup 37/, instead of increasing with molecular weight. The simple mixture law is valid in the transition from H to D compounds, as it is in the transition from Cl/sup 35/, to Cl/sup 37/ compounds, but with a different factor. Apparently the effect is connected with the effect of the rotational quanta. The system of curves for the alpha value has the typical appearance of curves for the simultaneous effect of mass and diameter. (J.S.R)
