STUDIES ON TRANSVERSE MOMENTA OF HIGH-ENERGY JETS WITH EMULSION CLOUD CHAMBERS
It has been suggested that transverse momenta of shower particles with respect to the shower axis are important quantities in the study of high-energy f etshower dynamics. The experimental data are tabulated. The transverse momenta of secondaries are quite small even when the primary and secondary energies are very high, and they seem to be insensitive to the energy or primary particles. An emulsion chamber prof ect was recently carried out with the collaboration of several laboratories to get further experimental information on transverse momenta of shower particles. Seventeen emulsion chambers were flown by 8 plastic balloons to a height of 5600 m and 13 of them were recovered. From 2 to 4 jets of more than 3 cores with good separation were found in each chamber. The development of a separated cascade shower was inspected. By comparing its transition curve with the theoretical one, the energy of the primary gamma ray of each shower may be estimated. (A.C.)
