ON THE SEPARATION OF RARE EARTH ELEMENTS. VI. FURTHER STUDY OF RARE EARTH ELEMENT SEPARATION BY COMPLEX ELUTION. METHOD OF RAPID LANTHANUM SEPARATION

Journal Article · · Journal fuer Praktische Chemie (East Germany)
Lanthanum was separated from a mixture of rare earth elements by ion exchange. All the nare earths, with the exception of lanthanum, were eluted from the resin with a 4% solution of beta -oxyethyliminodiacetic acid at pH 5 and a temperature of 70 icient laborato C. The lanthanum was then eluted with a 4% nitryltriacetic acid solution containing 2% NH/sub 4/Cl and HN/sub 4/OH. Pure lanthanum was obtained with a yield of 95%. The method was used for lanthanum separation in a pilot plant installation. (J.S.R.)
