The utilization of high-density substances for shielding against nuclear radiation has led to the use of heavy concretes in which the aggregates are iron or barite ores or iron shot. The physical and mechanical properties of these concretes were determined. The results obtained with some other concretes are briefly discussed. (J.S.R.)
