RADIOIODINE STUDIES IN ENDEMIC GOITRE IN THE LIBYAN DESERT

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4270715

The conversion ratio and the 24-hour iodine-131 uptake were estimated in a number of people from an area where goiter is endemic. The values showed a wide range of variability but correlated well in both tests. Data are interpreted as evidence that the hormonal turnover is rapid in the thyroid glands of people living in endemic areas and that goiter in these regions is due to iodine deficiency. (C.H.)
