THE SPECTROGRAPHIC DETERMINATION OF CADMIUM IN MISCELLANEOUS NON-URANIC MATERIALS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4269352
ABS>A solution of the sample is suitably treated so that on rendering it ammoniacal the cadmium may be quantitatively extracted by a solution of dithizone in carbon tetrachloride. The dithizone extract is passed through a small column of activated alumina. The first centimeter of the column is isolated and mixed with an internal standard carrier mixture and spectrographed by a modified carrier-distillation technique. The cadmium content of the sample is found by measurement of the density of the cadmium line 2288.0 A and comparison with the internal standard arsenic line 2288.1 A. Similar measurements are made for a series of cadmium standards photographed on the same plate. (auth)
