POTASSIUM ISOTOPES AS REACTION PRODUCTS OF COSMIC RADIATION IN THE CARBO IRON METEORITE (in German)

The potassium content of a sample from the Carbo meteorite was determined and isotopically analyzed. The K/sup 40/, K/sup 39/,/K/sup 39/, and K/ sup 40//K/sup 41/ ratios were measured and compared with the ratios found in normal potassium. The results showed that all the K/sup 40/ found and some of the K/sup 41/ had a cosmic radiation origin. The concentration of K/sup 40/ was larger than 7.3 x 10/sup -11/ g/g of meteorite. No evidence was found for a cosmic radiation origin of the K/sup 38/ detected. (J.S.R.)
