An oxytelluride of cerium with the composition Ce/sub 2/TeO/sub 2/ is obtained by the reaction of tellurium gases on the oxide CeO/sub 2/ at lOOO C. The principal physical and chemical properties are described. It is in particular very resistant to the action of acids and bases and is oniy attacked by boiling aqua regia and fused potassium hydroxide. It deteriorates slowly in air at room temperature and is sensitive to the action of oxidants. (tr-auth)
