MEASUREMENT OF FUEL PLATE SURFACE TEMPERATURES IN THE ORGANIC MODERATED REACTOR EXPERIMENT

The OMRE uses fuel elements consisting of plates of a fully enriched UO/ sub 2/ stainless steel cermet clad with stainless steel. The surface temperatures are measured with 36-gage chromel - alumel thermocouples spot welded to the cladding. The error in the measurement introduced by conduction along the thermocouple lead wires and convection to the coolant is discussed. (W.D.M.)
