CLAD TITANIUM-BASE DISPERSIONS CONTAINING BORON

Journal Article · · Nuclear Sci. and Eng.
OSTI ID:4266300
Cast uranium carbide containing carbon slightly in excess of stoichiometric UC was irradiated up to 5000 Mwd/ton to evaluate it as a fuel material for the SRE. The samples, prepared by an arc-melting technique, contained 5 wt. % carbon. Samples prepared in this manner approached theoretical density for the given composition, and in the as-cast condition at 5 wt.% C, containing UC/sub 2/ as a second phase. Samples were irradiated to about 700 Mwd/ton at 600 deg F maximum fuel center temperature, l420 Mwd/ton at l600 deg F, and to about 5000 Mwd/ton at l830 deg F. (W.D.M.)
