TRAC/PF1-MOD2 drag model revision for UPTF simulation

The Upper Plenum Test Facility (UPTF) downcomer separate effect test 6 was simulated to evaluate the downcomer interphase drag models in the TRAC/PF1-MOD2 computer code, versions 5.3 and 5.4. Model deficiencies were discovered in both versions. Framatome Technologies Inc. (FTI) developed modifications to the TRAC downcomer interphase drag model. These modifications have been incorporated in the FTI TRAC version, BWTRAC. UPTF test 6 was simulated using BWTRAC, and the results show that these modifications have considerably improved BWTRAC predictive capabilities. This paper describes FTI`s downcomer drag modifications and the improved UPTF simulation results.
