INVESTIGATIONS OF $gamma$ RAYS PRODUCED BY PROTON BOMBARDMENT OF THE TARGET WITH Ne$sup 2$$sup 0$ (in Russian)

The characteristics of the Na/sup 21/ nucleus at the 3.57Mev level were studied using the reaction Ne/sup 20/(p, )Na/sup 21/. The low-lying levels of the mirror image Ne/sup 21/ and Na/sup 21/ nuclei were plotted on the basis of previously published data. The resonance peaks of -ray yields from a target containing Ne/sup 20/ and the -ray resonance from F/sup 19/(p, alpha )O/ sup 16/ reactions were correlated. of the spectra from the reaction Ne/sup 20/(p, )Na/sup 21/ at 1175 kev showed only one strong -ray line with the energy of 3.60 Mev. Measurements of the absolute yield from Ne/sup 20/(p )Na/sup 21/ produced a value of 4 x 10/sup -11/ quanta per proton. The yield from the F/sup 19/(p, alpha )O/sup 16/ target was 8 x 10/sup -11/ quanta per proton, indicating the presence of fluorine in the target in quantities 10/sup 4/ times smaller than the quantity of Ne/sup 20/. The angular distribution of rays from Ne (p, )Na/sup 21/ was studied, and a spin and parity of 5/2/sup +/ were assigned for the excited level of Na/sup 21/ at 3.58 Mev. (R.V.J.)
