ETHYL ALCOHOL--RADIOMIMETIC AGENT IN VICIA FABA L (in German)

The radiomimetic properties of ethyl alcohol on roots of Vicia faba L. were investigated. Root tips were placed in various conccntrations of ethyl of alcohol at 24 deg for 24 hr. After a 24-hr recovery period dn running water at 24- deg C,the roots were fixed in alcohol-glacial acetic acid solution with 0.05% colchicine. The chromosome mutations which had occurred at each concentration of ethyl alcohol were determined. The results, which are tabulated, show a correlation between alcohol concentration and chromosome aberration. (J.S.R.)
