THE CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF TERNARY ALLOYS OF PLUTONIUM WITH COBALT AND CERIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4263653
A procedure is described for the determination of plutonium, cobalt, and cerium in their ternary alloys. The plutonium is separated from and acid solution of the alloy by absorption as the nitrate complex on anion exchange resin. The cobalt and cerium are recovered in the column effluent and determined without further separation. Cobalt is determined absorptiometrically with nitroso-R-salt and cerium by titration with potassium permanganate in pyrophosphate solution to a photometric end point. The plutonium is recovered from the column by elution with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and determined absorptiometrically using the Pu (III) color. (auth)
