Examination of several HIP, P-1 beryllium modifications
Modifications to the standard CIP/HIP, P-l beryllium have been made to produce "high ductility'' and "high strength" grade materials. The modifications included powder input size, HIP temperature, oxide content and silicon content. Using optical and electron microscopy, microstructures produced by these modifications were examined to provide an insight into observed mechanical property differences. The results show the mechanical properties were dependent on the grain size as indicated by the Hall-Petch correlation. The grain size was dictated by the powder input size. Other microstructural features are described.
