DETERMINATION OF NITROGEN IN ZIRCONIUM AND ZIRCONIUM BASE ALLOYS

The sample is dissolved in HCl and HF, and the resulting solution is made basic with strong NaOH. The nitrogen is steam distilled off as ammonia which is spectrophotometrically determined. The method covers the determination of N in Zr, Zircaloy-2, and Zircaloy3 in the range of 5to 120 ppm on a one gram sample basis. (W.D.M.)
