A high-temperature centrifugal-filtration apparatus is described for separating the liquid phase from the solid phase in a fused salt system. The filtrate can be observed as it is obtained while the sample is maintained in a controlled atmosphere. The application of this apparatus to a phase rule study is demonstrated by locating the invariant point between the compounds LiF and Li/ sub 2/BeF/sub 4/ in the binary system LiF--BeF/sub 2/ at 66.7 sintering time 0.8 mole% lithium fluoride and 456 sintering time 2 C.
