The study of strong interactions has been based up to now on the Lagrangian used by d'Espagnat and Prentki and Salam. Another kind of Lagrangian has been proposed by Pais. The relation between these two Lagrangians is the following: one can assume tbat fundamentally the baryons are all isospin doublets of equal mass so that the Pais expression is the fundamental interaction, and the coupling and interaction constants of the different terms are linked together by the fundamental symmetries which rule the scheme. However, Pais has shown that such an assumption appears now to be incompatible with the experimental data and has recently examined the possibility that the parities of charged K's could be opposite to the parities of K . Should the parity of charged and neutral K's tum out to be effectively opposite, there would be no more objection to the assumption of direct KK pi interactions. (A.C.)
