Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4259017

The specific alpha activities of Pu/sup 239/ and Pu/sup 240/ were determined using twelve specimens with isotopic content: Pu/sup 239/ = 91.26 to 99.11; Pu/sup 240/, (0.87 plus or minus 0.06) to (7.57 plus or minus 0.1); Pu/ sup 241/, (1.3 plus or minus 0.3) x 10/sup -2/ to (1.04 plus or minus 0 05). Pu/sup 242/ (1.62 plus or minus 0.1) x 10/sup -3/ to (1.75 plus or minus 0.05) x 10/sup -2/ and Pu/sup 242/ + Np/sup 237/, 0.01 to 0.1 (wt. %). Alpha activity per mu g of Pu/sup 239/ was 136,200 plus or minus 200 decays per min, corresponding to a half life of 24,390 plus or minus 30 years. For Pu/sup 240/ , 500,000 plus or minus 4000 decays/min/ mu g, corresponding to a half life of 6,620 plus or minus 50 years. The results are in good agreement with published data. (R.V.J.)
