Among phctcgraphs of cosmic rays obtained with a Wilson cloud channber fllled with argon at 75 atmosPheres, three examples were found of particles identified as mu mesons, stopping in the channber and subsequertly emitting beta rays of approximately 2.5-Mew energy. From the number of identllied mu - e decays, the positive excess of mu -mesons, and the capture probability for negative mu -mesons in argon, is calculated at approximately 35 stOpped mu - mesons are cortained in the photographs in question. It is most unlikely that the events can be rormal mu -e decays since very few decay electrons fall in the energy band 0-5 Mev. The Michel spectrum products that, on average, less than 0.03 such decays would be observed for the conditions of the experiment. (W.D.M.)
