MECHANISM OF INTERCRYSTALLINE CORROSION OF STAINLESS STEEL IN NITRIC ACID (in Russian)

It is shown that a current appears between two stainless steel electrodes submerged into nitric acid solutions of various concentrations; the electrode in the stronger concentration acts as cathode and the electrode in the weaker solution acts as anode. Effects of various concentrations of HNO/sub 3/ and various admixtures of of stainless steel at 60 C are shown graphically. (R.V.J.)
