ELASTIC SCATTERING OF PROTONS BY Si$sup 28$ NUCLEI. THE SPIN AND PARITY OF 4.31 AND 4.73 Mev LEVELS OF P$sup 2$$sup 9$ (in Russian)

The proton scattering cross section of Si/sup 28/ was measured in order to determine the characteristics of Pi/sup 29/ excitod states related to the resonance at proton energles of 1.65 Mev (width 60 kev), 2.09 Mev (width 25 kev), and the wide resonance at 2.9 Mev. The experimentally ured in order to determine the characteristics of P/sup 29/ excited states related to the resonance at proton energies of 1.65 Mev (width 60 kev), 2.09 Mev (width 25 kev), and the wide resonance at 2.9 Mev. The experimentally indicated resonance half- widths of 50 and 14 kev differ considerably from the previously reported values of 50 and 25 kev. Thc results of the phase analysis are tabulated. The level at 4.31 Mev is single, and the 4.73-Mev level has a more complex mechanism. Data on the spins and parities of the levels are confirmed by measurements of proton polarlzation in elastic scattering. (R.V.J.)
